Race Day and Location

Race day is set for Saturday, May 27, 2023. Located in Vancouver, British Columbia, the race venue is set on beautiful False Creek, in the heart of the City. Racer’s village is at Creekside Park, on the corner of Athlete’s Way and Ontario Street, next to the Olympic Village area on the traditional, ancestral and unceded lands and waters of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh. We are grateful to these communities for hosting us on their territories. Registration will open at 7:00 am and races generally run starting at 8:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. (times confirmed with the final race grid)

PLEASE NOTE: For 2023, we are back to this event being a full day event.

Racing Format

The regatta consists of three 500m dragon boat races using BUK dragon boats. There is no age class racing. Breast Cancer Survivor Challenge and Flower Ceremony is once again being hosted by our Regatta, sponsored by Abreast In A Boat (AIAB), and promises to be the highlight of the day!

Paddles and Transport Canada approved PFDs are provided for racers. All boats, PFDs, paddles, and common surfaces will be disinfected regularly. However, Paddlers are encouraged to use their own Transport Canada/Canadian Coast Guard certified PFD, and their own paddle if they have one to reduce using shared equipment.

Roster Requirements

There will be a minimum of 18 and a maximum of 24 paddlers allowed on the roster, plus 1 drummer and 1 steersperson. All participants must be female except for the steersperson, who can be any gender.

COVID-19 Protocols

As COVID-19 is still a part of the world’s daily life, we would encourage teams to practise social distancing, hand hygiene and the wearing of facial masks when social distancing is not possible. If any team members are not feeling well, please do not attend the site as we may have various athletes who may have compromised immune systems.

Please note that due to increases in permits, equipment and materials, we have had to increase our fees. While we acknowledge this may seem like a significant increase; it is necessary in order to allow this event to continue. Thank you for your understanding.
